Microlights are aircraft that are built to a maximum all up weight of 450 kilograms and a stall speed of less than 35 knots. There are many types of microlight, the two main catagories being 'Weight Shift' and 'Three Axis'. Probably the first decision to make before you commence your training is to consider which one is for you. The best way of finding out is to have a trial flight in each one. You can see here a variety of microlights that are based around Deanland Airfield.
I personally started on weight shift and converted to three axis. Three axis was my personal preference as I found that with their enclosed cockpit, ease of handling in turbulence and good crosswind capabilities I doubled the number of hours that I could fly in a year. For these same reasons, I choose to teach on three axis aircraft only.
